Let’s be candid — the traditional legal industry wasn’t designed with clients in mind. It was built around law firms: tradition, slow-moving, opaque, and more focused on billable hours than business outcomes. Too many businesses have paid too much, waited too long, and gained too little clarity from their legal advisors. We saw that system for what it was and decided to do something different.
Ingenio Law was born from a simple belief: there’s a better way to practice law.
We have built a corporate and tax law boutique firm that prioritizes practical advice, transparency, and efficiency. We use technology to eliminate unnecessary overhead, streamline communication, and deliver the quality of counsel that businesses expect — without the bureaucracy they’ve come to accept. We invest in our practice to provide the most relevant services to our clients.
Our Team bring decades of experience in corporate governance, tax planning, and business structuring. More importantly, we use that expertise to advance your goals. We dig into the mechanics of your business, identify opportunities, and deliver solutions that create real results. If you’re looking for advisors who combine technical excellence with candid, practical advice — you’ll find Ingenio refreshingly different.
Most firms frame their values as vague aspirations. We frame ours as battle lines.
While other firms form committees to ‘consider’ adopting technology, we've already built our entire practice around it. Automated workflows, AI-powered research, client portals that actually work — this isn't our five-year plan. It's Tuesday. We don't innovate because it's trendy. We innovate because the old way wastes your time and money.
Good enough doesn't live here. Every file that crosses our desk gets the same obsessive attention — whether it's a $500K deal or a $50M one. We take the work seriously. Not ourselves — the work. Every advice we provide, every structure we suggest, and every opinion we sign is something we'd stake our reputation on.
No surprises. No hidden fees. Surprises are just as unpleasant for us. With us, you'll always know where you stand, what it will cost, and what we honestly think — even when the truth is uncomfortable. We'd rather have a hard conversation today than let you walk into a preventable disaster tomorrow. That's not just integrity. That's the bare minimum, and most firms can't even manage it.
We trained, and then all left bigger firms because they wanted to practice law differently. Less bureaucracy. More impact. We built this firm on a simple idea: you deserve legal counsel that moves as fast and thinks as boldly as you do.
LLM (Tax), LLB/LLL
JP built Ingenio Law because he was done watching businesses get mediocre advice from bloated firms. He provides corporate and tax law services to Canadian and foreign clients, with a particular focus on corporate and commercial transactions with tax complexities — including business reorganizations and sales of private businesses. He serves as a corporate director, trustee, and trusted advisor to family offices.
Before founding Ingenio, JP was a partner with a large national law firm and an international professional services firm. He started his career with a judicial clerkship at the Tax Court of Canada — the kind of foundation that means he knows exactly how the other side thinks.
He holds an LLM in Tax Law from HEC / Université de Montréal and an LLB/LLL (civil & common law) from the University of Ottawa. He has completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Courses (Parts I, II & III), the CBA's Tax Law for Lawyers, and Bloomberg BNA's US International Tax courses.
Danielle brings nearly two decades of corporate paralegal and law firm experience to Ingenio. Before joining us, she spent several years at a large national law firm supporting corporate and tax law teams. Her deep knowledge of law firm operations and corporate law, combined with extraordinary organizational skills, keeps our practice running like clockwork.
